Make it a 10!

As most of you might know, I didn't make any goals or resolutions in my life. The only thing I do desire for 2010 is gospel growth in my own life, and in those around me. I did find this to be an awesome way to think about ways I might pursue gospel growth.

To follow in SKH's footsteps, I’m going to answer Don Whitney’s Ten Questions to Ask at the Start of a New Year.

1. What’s one thing you could do this year to increase your enjoyment of God?
To spend more time praying and just waiting on the Lord daily. I have decided to try my best to get away between my lunch break at work to my private praying time before bedtime, I believe this will increase my enjoyment of God in 2010.

2. What’s the most humanly impossible thing you will ask God to do this year?
To give me gospel growth in my own life.

3. What’s the single most important thing you could do to improve the quality of your family life this year?
We are going to find families within our church family that we can serve together. Whether through prayer or deeds, I feel this will improve the quality of our family life in 2010.

4. In which spiritual discipline do you most want to make progress this year, and what will you do about it?
Prayer. I want to be devoted to prayer. Whether that is corporate, family or personal I will be intentional about my prayer life in 2010. See #1 about what I have done to take this step.

5. What is the single biggest time-waster in your life, and what will you do about it this year?
This is going to be Internet. I seem to waste the most time there. I think going with SKH's diet will be the best idea for me, because it will limit my time on the Internet and discipline me for keeping good use of my time. Here is his Internet diet plan for 2010;

I’m going on an Internet diet for the year. I will imbibe from the Internet only three days a week (Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday). That includes all email, tweets, news, and blogs. On the other four days I will send (update, post, etc.), but won’t receive. With email, I’ll triage twice a day in case of emergencies, but otherwise it’s days with less dings for me.
I really don't want to do this, but thinking about it, it would be the best for using my time in the most profitable way. Internet really does get in my way, and if I am not going to waste my life this needs to happen!

6. What is the most helpful new way you could strengthen your church?
By prayerfully sharing the gospel with others and sharing the Word as well. Really by getting involved with others lives, whether by having them over for dinner or just doing a coffee time with another man so we can grow together. Just finding the time to help gospel growth in other men and families would strengthen my church family.

7. For whose salvation will you pray most fervently this year?
I am not really sure, but I will pray about this one. But I do know that I desire nothing less for those around me then to come to and grow in their personal relationship with Jesus Christ. That is the reason I am excited about gospel growth in others. Whether that starts with new salavtion for them, or just to have more fire for the things of the Lord, I know I will be praying much for this in 2010. Gospel growth in myself and others is of most importance to me!

8. What’s the most important way you will, by God’s grace, try to make this year different from last year?
The thing that is going to make the difference is just meditating and celebrating on God's gospel and keeping that at the center of 2010.

9. What one thing could you do to improve your prayer life this year?
I am going to just plan to pray, pray and pray some more. Making a plan to pray and being diligent to go after my plans. To pray that God would give me a bigger heart for my prayer life.

10. What single thing that you plan to do this year will matter most in ten years? In eternity?
Reach those in my neighborhood with the gospel. This is going to mean that my family is going to have to find ways to get involved within our community, and I think Jolie and I are nervous, but more excited to see what God would do as we live the gospel, and share it with those that live on our block!

Awesome Ryan,
Thanks for sharing your goals with us. He gives the strength and the desire to do these kinds of things because He loves our fellowship with Him. He will answer this request for you.
