Have you ever wondered what that looks like? I think Paul tells us much about that in Romans 12:9-21. Paul says that living Christian is
1) Christians will have a genuine love for others. This is a sincere love that is free of all hypocrisy. Our love is to be real for others.
2) Christians will abhor what is evil. This is a feeling of contempt or disgust with. If we want to abhor what is evil in this world then we must fear the Lord. This daily practice will give you a heart to turn from what is evil in God's eyes.
3) Christians hold fast to what is good. When you walk in the fear of the Lord you will find that everything you do is good and pleasing to the Lord.
4) Christians love one another with brotherly affection. Matthew Henry says, "it signifies not only love, but a readiness and inclination to love, the most genuine and free affection, kindness flowing out as from a spring."
5) Christians outdo one another in showing honor. We should look for ways to build up, encourage, look out for the interest of others. One way I try to do this practice is by sharing with others what I see God working in their hearts. It is awesome to be able to discern the things that God is doing in hearts. I work on this daily....helps bring the focus on what God is doing and not on what I am doing! Try it.
6) Christians are not lazy in their zeal for the Lord and the things of the Lord. Like Paul Brown's sermon on Psalm 23. We should be shouting from a joyful heart, "THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD!" Be proud of your Shepherd! If your not excited for the Lord then how will you be excited for the things the Lord.
7) Christians are fervent in spirit. If we are not walking in the spirit then we can't live Christian. Only when you walk in the spirit will you be able to serve the Lord with a whole heart.
8) Christians serve the Lord. Everything we do should be for the glory of the Lord. We serve the Lord in our work, home, church and in everything we do. Without number 6 and 7 you won't be able to serve the Lord. It just can't be done in the flesh!
9) Christians rejoice in hope, are patient in tribulation, and constant in prayer. We should hope in God. This shows our dependence and trust for Him. Even in our suffering we are to be patient and wait on the Lord. When we know all we need is Him then we will be more fervent in our prayers to Him because He is our Shepherd and He will guide us and lead us as we read and pray over Scripture.
10) Christians reach out for the needs of others. Whether in the church or in the community we find ways to serve others and help meet their needs. Always looking to show hospitality to others the Lord may bring into our lives.
If you have anything you want to add please feel free to make a comment. While this is only the first half of the list, I will have to post more on this later. This gives me a lot to chew on for now, and I hope you chew on it also. May the Lord work much into our hearts as we seek to love Him with all our heart, soul, mind and strength! Because only He can give us the power and strength to live Christian. Depend and hope in God. He is faithful always!
